The Difference between Essences and Serums
In the last blog "The Difference between Toners and Essences", I discussed the differences between Toners and Essences and the different roles they play in the Korean skincare routine. Today, I would like to discuss the differences between Essences and Serums.
Similarly to toners and essences, serums also represent a key part of the Korean skincare routine and they normally come in sequential step following essences. Furthermore, many users of cosmetics would often recognize essences and serums as interchangeable. However, though they often contain similar ingredients, essences and serums do play different roles in the skincare routine.
As mentioned in the previous blog, essences soothe the skin, provide it with a boost of hydration and better prepare it to absorb the serum and moisturizer that come in the following steps. Serums on the other hand, are designed to deliver antioxidant ingredients including vitamins A, C and E, they provide hydration and help fight wrinkles and pigmentation. Furthermore, essences are often more watery and less concentrated while serums often come in a thicker solution and are more concentrated.
Well there you have it! I hope this blog helped you better understand the differences between essences and serums and the different roles they play in the Korean skincare routine :)
